Door keeper in the House of God

Psalm 84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Being a door keeper for the house of God; aren't we all if we are disciples of Christ? We need to invite others in to see what we see. Someone called us to come and see what the Lord had done for them and in so doing we have been added to the house of the Lord.

Today think of yourself as a doorman for heaven. Engage those that wonder by to come and see the House of God. See what has been done through Jesus death, burial and resurrection. Invite them into your heavenly Father's Kingdom.

Yes, I tell you, fear him!

When confronted by those that do not want to hear the truth we have no choice but to do what God has told us to do. The threat of persecution for preaching the truth should not keep us from telling the world about Jesus. Peter had learned his lesson about denying Christ. We should learn from his example. Peter when confronted by he same people that crucified Jesus he has no fear of them any longer. He knows not to put his soul at risk for the sake of his body.

Our bodies will cease to exist, but our soul faces an eternal destination. We have to choose where we will spend our eternity. It is that serious.

Advice; most of us love to give it, few of us love to receive it. Let us heed the Godly advise of those that may be more spiritually wise than ourselves. In so doing we will gain Godly wisdom. Following Godly wisdom leads to a Godly life.

Jesus the true light

Jesus was the true light that came to enlighten man. He came to show man who God is and what true faith really is. He was the WORD come to life.God was no longer just speaking through the written word, he was speaking through the Living Word.

When verse 10 says that He was in the world, it is saying God Himself was in the world. Yet those he created, those that He made to be His people did not recognize their creator. He was not accepted by His own people.

Remember Jesus went to the Jews first, His own people. But they did not see Him for who He was. John is saying this to point to the fact that in his account of Jesus he will show his readers who Jesus is.

He does show in verses 12 and 13 that some did believe Jesus was who He said He was. And by the will of God were given the right to become children of God. When John writes these verses he is setting the stage for his readers to see that there is still hope in Jesus. If after reading his account they believe in Jesus and what He has done for them they too can become children of God.

But we are still in the introductory stage of John's gospel there is still so much more to come proving who Jesus is. We will go through the whole gospel; to get the full understanding of why Jesus came to earth, what He did and why we need to believe in Him and all of His teachings.

John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God".

The Word refers to Jesus Himself. This verse tells us that Jesus has always been. That He is eternal, that He was there when everything was created and that He is God.

John 1:2

"He was in the beginning with God".

Jesus was never an after thought in the redemption of man; He was there in the beginning. He always has been the word of God.

John 1:3

"All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being".

In genesis when we are told that "God said" in the creation account; Jesus is that Word of God speaking everything into existence.

John in the first few verses of his gospel is introducing Jesus as God Himself. He is telling his readers that Jesus was God in the flesh.

John 1:4

"In Him was life and the life was the light of men".

Jesus is the source of life, both mortal and eternal. He came as a light to the world to show the way to eternal life.

John 1:5

"And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it".

John points out the fact that Jesus came to His people to show the the way to eternal life, but their hearts were so darkened by sin that they could not comprehend what He was showing them.

These first few verses of the gospel of John really set the stage for all that John is going to share with his audience in his account of Jesus ministry on earth. He proves Jesus has authority in what He teaches.

He tells his readers who Jesus is and what He came to do and that many did not understand. As he goes further along in his telling of Jesus story he strives to introduce his readers to this Jesus that turned the world upside down with His teachings.

We will see more about Jesus in Johns introductory chapters of the gospel, but let us focus today on the fact that Jesus has been there from the beginning. Let us take comfort in knowing that God had a plan in place for our redemption before we even needed it. It is wonderful to know that we serve a God that loves us that much.

Unity

One thing that would go a long way in helping people to discover the church of the New testament; would be if we could come to a consensus on how the New Testament is written and what it is telling us. Sounds simple doesn't it? One would think that all Christians would see the New Testament in the same light. If that were only true Satan wouldn't have such a grasp on believers.
Let's begin by looking at Ephesians 4:1-6. Paul is speaking about unity in the church.

Verse 1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called, He speaks to the church about walking in a worthy way. In verse 2 he tells how to do this. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; these terms call us to not think more of ourselves than we ought, not to be overbearing, to be patient and to love one another. In verse Paul says to continue “giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” He calls the church to unity of the Spirit. The spirit he is speaking of here is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot be divided, he is one. The message the Holy Spirit sends to us through the inspired writers of the New Testament is singular in its purpose. His message is to show all mankind who Jesus is, what he has done for us, how we can come to God through him and how to live as his children when we have come to him on his terms. Verses 4-6 tells us there is one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. We see that Paul is talking about oneness in these last three verses, not a multitude of the items listed. There is only one body, which is the church. Paul doesn’t speak of plural churches or bodies; just one. So somewhere we have gone astray. He also says there is on one Spirit, and as we have already discussed He is the one that guided the New Testament writers in recording the one message. One hope of our calling; one would think that means we are all called to walk in the same way. He then goes on to say that there is only 1 Lord 1 faith 1 baptism 1 God and He is the Father of all. It sure sounds like Paul is trying to get the message across that there is only one way of being the church that Jesus died for. There is only on Lord; I certainly believe that all Christians agree on that. So this will be our starting point. There is only one LORD! He then is the one we are called to serve on His terms.

In future postings we will address the rest of the points that Paul makes in theses verses.Then we will begin to do a survey of the New Testament.

Confusion

Confusion reigns supreme. So many people today are asking, where is the church? The answer is simple; in your bible. All one has to do to find the church is to read the bible and they will know what the church looks like. Once one knows what the church looks like they can then begin to look amongst the local bodies of believers for the church that resembles the church they see in the pages of the New testament. The goal of this blog will be to help it's readers explore the New Testament and discover for themselves the New Testament church.

I believe that in order to serve God on His terms we must follow the instruction manual. (the New Testament) There we will find what is necessary for salvation and Christian living.
